About

What is Reaching Australia 2033?

Reaching Australia 2033 is a united Gospel affirmation and a commitment to five shared strategic goals for believers, churches, denominations, and organisations across Australia who desire to stand together in fulfilling the Great Commission. It is a call to mobilise the whole Church, in all her diversity, to obey all that Christ commands and to reach every Australian with the Gospel, all for God’s glory. The year 2033 will mark two thousand years since the Lord commissioned His church with these words:

“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” — Matthew 28:18-20

Reaching Australia 2033 is not an organisation, congregation, or denomination. It is a network of networks, united by a shared commitment to a set of goals that will help us fulfil the Great Commission in our generation. We have been greatly inspired and encouraged by Finishing the Task in the United States and the Go Movement in Germany.

Our role is to serve as strategic facilitators — to help release ‘every-believer evangelism’ in every church around Australia. We seek to be the spark that ignites a great Gospel wildfire. Our primary contribution is to multiply prayer — for both the Church and the harvest.

We also aim to connect evangelistic ministries with the wider Church, that together we might see millions come to Christ. Our central objective is to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace, enabling the Good News of Jesus to spread and multiply throughout Australia.

A Brief Background

The Reaching Australia 2033 statement emerged from the Australian Evangelism Roundtable, held in Brisbane on 11–12 July 2025. This gathering of fifty-six key church leaders was coordinated, underwritten and prayerfully supported by the team at the Canberra Declaration. We are also deeply grateful to the Finishing the Task team, who made a significant contribution towards the cost of the Roundtable.

Warwick Marsh and Kym Farnik chaired the gathering at the Brisbane Conference Centre, assisted by a wonderful team of helpers and prayer leaders. Every written contribution was recorded in a historic document titled, ‘The Tide Is Turning’. The entire gathering was undergirded by twenty-four hours of online national prayer. Ps Rick Warren spoke at a special Finishing the Task evangelism dinner, further inspiring us all in the mission of every-believer evangelism.

Out of that gathering, where leaders represented over eighty per cent of Christian denominations in Australia — including Catholic, Anglican, Evangelical and Pentecostal leaders — Reaching Australia 2033 was birthed.

The new Anglican Primate of Australia, Bishop Mark Short, has given this united Gospel pledge his full endorsement. He joins the highly respected and recently retired Catholic Archbishop of Tasmania, Julian Porteous, and the former Anglican Archbishop of Sydney, Glenn Davies, who is now Bishop of the Diocese of the Southern Cross. Senior Evangelical, Pentecostal, and other denominational leaders were also among the signatories.

Reaching Australia 2033 was developed over an almost four-month period, through twenty-one drafts, culminating in a unanimous agreement on shared Gospel affirmations and a shared commitment to proclaiming the Good News. It was an extraordinary achievement, marked by great humility from many wonderful men and women of God, seasoned with patience, grace and loving attentiveness.

The team at the Canberra Declaration believes the outcome was nothing short of a miracle of prayer and the grace of God. We are deeply humbled by the result. Soli Deo Gloria!

Reaching Australia 2033 was officially launched on 31 October 2025 — the final night of a month of prayer and fasting for the Church and the release of the Gospel across Australia.

A History-Making Statement

There has never been such a broad-ranging and unified statement on the Gospel — nor such a simple, shared strategy to spread it — in the history of the Australian Church.

We believe Reaching Australia 2033 is a momentous miracle, uniting senior Catholic, Anglican, Evangelical, and Pentecostal leaders, along with other key Christian ministry leaders, in agreement across seven vital areas:

  1. The urgent need to get the Gospel out to every person in Australia.
  2. A shared goal and time frame: Pentecost Sunday 2033.
  3. Agreement on a theological definition of what the Gospel is — a significant milestone.
  4. A commitment to unity and love in Gospel mission, as Jesus prayed in John 17.
  5. A strong commitment to train all church members in every-believer evangelism, beginning with an initial goal of ten per cent activation, while keeping the ultimate vision of one hundred per cent participation by every believer in every church.
  6. A shared call to action each year between Easter and Pentecost Sunday — an intensive season of Gospel proclamation and prayer. As a simple starting step, every believer is encouraged to pray for five friends and share Jesus with those five.
  7. A united commitment to prayer — to seek God for all these goals and for the salvation of souls across our nation as never before.

How Will We Reach Every Australian?

No one can fulfil the Great Commission alone. I can’t do it by myself; you can’t do it by yourself. There aren’t enough missionaries, pastors, or professionals to get it done. It will take all of us — ordinary people, the men and women who sit in the chairs and pews of churches all over Australia.

According to National Church Life Survey data, around twenty-one per cent of Australians — approximately 5.7 million people — can be regarded as weekly or monthly attenders, or as believers. Our desire is to equip every Australian believer to share their faith personally.

If every believer in Jesus Christ were to share the Good News with four people who have never heard it over the next seven years, every person in Australia would hear the Gospel personally by Pentecost Sunday 2033.

The Keys to Success

Here are several key principles that will guide and sustain the vision of Reaching Australia 2033.

Prayer

The prayer team at the Canberra Declaration will continue to pray and actively call for increased prayer for the success and multiplication of the Reaching Australia 2033 vision. We deeply appreciate your prayers too. As Alfred, Lord Tennyson wrote, ‘More things are wrought by prayer that this world dreams of.’ And as Jesus said, ‘Men ought always to pray and not to faint’ (Luke 18:1).

Signatures

Every signature represents a person — a Christian leader, church leader, or denominational leader — stirred to unite in action to share the Good News of Jesus with everyone they meet. Please share Reaching Australia 2033 with your friends, family, and church networks. We pray that more and more people will sign the statement — and, more importantly, that those who do will share Jesus with their friends, families, and even with those they do not yet know.

Multiplication

The Gospel grows through the power of multiplication. When one believer shares the Good News, the seed of truth spreads and bears fruit in many hearts. As disciples make disciples, the Word of God increases and transforms lives, just as Jesus taught — bringing forth a harvest thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold. Through faithful sharing, the Kingdom of God expands without limit.

Local Ownership

Local ownership of the vision is vital to reaching Australia with the Gospel by Pentecost Sunday 2033. When believers in every city, region, town, and suburb take responsibility for their own communities, the goal becomes personal and powerful.

Every-believer evangelism will be expressed differently in each place. Local groups can shape their own united vision and set their own objectives to reach every person in their region by 2033. Local Evangelism Roundtables will empower churches, ministries, and believers to unite, pray, and develop Spirit-led strategies suited to their own neighbourhoods.

This grassroots approach ensures the Gospel is shared authentically, relationally, and sustainably — not as a distant campaign, but as a local movement of love and hope. As each community catches the vision, together we can see Australia transformed — one town, one suburb, one person at a time, with the Good News of Jesus.

A Goal to Strive Towards

In 1901, the Australian population was reported to be ninety-six per cent Christian according to the Census. It is no surprise, then, that our Constitution declares we are a nation ‘humbly relying on the blessing of almighty God’.

What has happened before can happen again. Scripture reminds us that God ‘wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth’ (1 Timothy 1:4).

So let us begin by praying for at least seven million salvations over the next seven years — by 2033 — knowing that ‘all glory [belongs] to God, who is able, through His mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think’ (Ephesians 3:20).

Seven million new believers would more than double the current number of church-attending Christians in Australia, and would equate to just over 20% of the nation’s projected population in 2033.

During the Illawarra Revival of 1902, around fifteen per cent of the local population came to Christ in the space of just a few months. In that light, even seven million may prove too small a figure. Whatever the number, let us each pray with the faith God gives us — knowing that He loves people and ‘is able to accomplish infinitely more than we can ask or think’.
